You probably want to visit Positano for many reasons, its picturesque town, crystal clear waters, or even its’ idyllic sunsets. But while visiting, you’ll see that the food is a calling card of its own. Spending the summer of 2023 in Positano gave me plenty of time to sample the food scene, and while there are many tempting options to choose from I certainly have some favorites. The restaurants on this list are dishing up some delicious fresh seafood, flavorful pasta, and of course, crispy & airy Neapolitan-style pizza. That being said, this is by no means a complete list and there are more recommendations to come. For now, andiamo, let’s talk food.
Start the day off with some Brunch before hitting the beach…
1. Casa e Bottega
If you’re looking for a more satiating breakfast than what the classic Italian colazione provides, look no further than Casa e Bottega. This stunning healthy food cafe& design store is home to some of the tastiest and healthiest food in the city. If you stop by in the morning they have an array of sweet and savory breakfast options ranging from pancakes to uova in purgatorio ( also known as eggs in purgatory or shakshuka in the States). As an egg-lover, I was in heaven the first time I came here after weeks of cornettos for breakfast.
Don’t get me wrong, the Italians are master chefs, and they dominate most lunch and dinner plates. When it comes to breakfast though, I always prefer something savory and filling to start my day. If you’re coming in around lunchtime you can expect to enjoy some delicious fresh fish, healthy bowls and salads, and even some pasta dishes
Booking reservations ahead of time will come in handy for these next spots!
2. Ristorante da Constantino
Perched above the city this spot has stunning views, great food, and the most affordable prices in Positano. While living here last summer I was a regular at this restaurant. The pizza is some of the best and holds up well for takeout. While dining in I always suggest starting with a pitcher of their house wine to set the tone. They are most famous for two of their pasta dishes. The first is their Crespoline al formaggio ( savory cheese crepes), which are crispy on the outside and filled with creamy cheese on the inside.
The second is their Manicaretto fatto in casa, which is a handmade manicaretto pasta ( similar to manicotti) stuffed with ricotta cheese mozzarella, and tomato sauce and baked to perfection. Both of these plates are quite small and I would recommend sharing them as an appetizer.
Other than the starters I always opt for their Scialatielli ai frutti di mare, which is a thicker homemade pasta sauteed with clams, mussels, squid, and other fresh seafood. And last, but certainly not least, their pizza is fantastic. It also holds up well if you’re interested in take-out or bringing home some snacks for after a late night out.
3. Lo Guarracino
This restaurant is located on the walkway between the two public beaches in Positano and serves up some of the best dishes in the city. The quality of these pictures should tell you how great the food is, I just couldn’t wait to dig in. The most notable starter here is their pizza. You truly cannot go wrong and every time I am amazed by their airy, crispy crust and perfectly balanced toppings.
Ordering a whole fish with some sides is always a great move here if you’re a group of 3 or more. Their Scialatielli ai frutti di mare is also always fantastic. The service is exceptional here and the staff are so kind and genuine. If you book a reservation around 6:45 you will have the most beautiful sunset across the water as the backdrop to a delicious dinner. This is a must-try restaurant.
4. Le Tre Sorelle
If you’re staying in or visiting Positano chances are you’re going to want to eat on the beach. The open-air restaurant is ocean-facing and built for people-watching, as romantic as it gets. Convenience in Positano always comes at a price, so be warned that this spot can get very pricey. Whenever we come here we always go for the full antipasti, primi, and secondi. This translates to a starter, first course ( a carb like pasta), and second course ( meat or fish). For our primi we typically get a focaccia or pizza bread with tomatoes, which has always been well seasoned and crispy.
The rest of the meal 100% revolves around seafood from here. Try the Fresine all’astice, a ribbon-like pasta with a local half-lobster. I also love walking to the back with them to personally select a fish for them to cook!
To round off a huge meal I was over the moon that they were able to make me a – delicious might I add- espresso martini. Now if you know you know, sub the vodka for el espolon tequila and you got yourself a digestive and dessert!
Thank you for reading along and I hope you have the most amazing brunches, lunches, and dinners in Positano <3 As always, feel free to reach out to me directly via email, IG, or Pinterest! Happy&safe travels
